WW1 Series
Counterstrike (Fokker Dr1 and SE5a)
Having just lost his wingman to the marauding Fokker Dr1 this SE5 has turned the tables with a strike on the port side of the Dr1 causing a fracture in the fuel feed. The inevitable fire spells the end, and a most unpleasant one, for the German pilot - most German aircrew did not carry parachutes at that time, they were banned for the RFC crews. World War 1 aerial combat was a truly desperate struggle with young pilots thrown into battle with minimal training and an average life expectancy, on reaching squadron, of some three to four weeks. A typical encounter in Flanders skies in early 1918.
Have been interested in photography since just after WW2, when film became freely available again, using Kodak Autographic equipment. Graduated, in the 50's, to 35mm and was involved in photographic work during my 17 yrs as RAF aircrew - navigator. Since retirement and migrating to Canon digital equipment have been involved with two of my sons and one grandson in a considerable amount of photographic activity, particularly composite images. Now producing digital art prints with the major emphasis on classic warbird aviation. With son, Duncan, now becoming a well-known and published wild life photographer we have started, in 2017, a new gallery reflecting Scottish sea birds - and 'feathered' flight

Yessss Dramatic and your descriptions are bringing the scenery alive..I can almost ear the roaring of the propellers! OMG four weeks of trainning only poor kids..no wonder their were so many casualties..they were no enough experienced with flying these..the techology was so precarious at the time..no parachute..they were suicide pilots without really wanting it !!! Voted Fav !

Thanks Chris for your generous comments, really appreciated. With three generations now working on the project the family ethos is well and truly planted - have to work ever harder to keep up with them!! Thanks for your encouragement..............Pat.

I agree with David. What a great mix of reality and effect. Your images look both painted and photographed at the same time. Quite a difficult achievement. I also think it's great you are working with your boys. Family should always be first and it's fantastic you've found something you can do together. I look forward to your next work. CT. v
